Our Members of the Month for October are Jackie Fritz and Ryan Brown!

Jackie

Jackie, left, with some of the Reach the Beach team!

*Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I grew up in New York and moved here after college for a job at Reebok. I’m sorry to say that I am still a Yankee fan. I now live in Westwood with my family and love the small community.

*When do you workout?  And what’s your favorite part of being a member of CRAIC?
I’ve tried a few other times, but the 5:15am really is the best for me. It sounds early, but I love how quiet it is in the morning, there’s no traffic, no other distractions at that time, and the early morning crew can’t be beat!

My favorite part of being a CRAIC member are obviously the coaches and people! I love that you can expect something different from each coach: Sara asking you before every workout how you feel and if there are any concerns, Giorgio always giving you a fist bump, and Marc telling you to go faster so it will be over sooner.

The people are amazing, too! Everyone is always so supportive and push you to try things out of your comfort zone. I recently did Reach The Beach with the Craic crew and it was so much fun, but something I would have never tried on my own.

*Anything interesting you’d like to share about yourself (job/hobbies/fun facts/family, etc.)?
I am really into Fantasy Football!

I love scary/horror movies! I have seen them all.

I have a 9 year old daughter and 5 year old son, they love to hear about my workouts in the morning and I sometimes have them double check my math in SugarWOD!

I have 6 pet chickens and love digging for vegetables and picking fruit in the summer with my kids.

*Your proudest accomplishment(s) in training so far are…
I recently PR’D my back squat, bench press and power clean. None of them are crazy heavy, but for me it feels like an accomplishment!

*Some current training goals are…
UPPER BODY STRENGTH.  PERIOD.

*What’s the best advice you have in six words?  You may submit multiple answers.
Be a Beauty and a Beast.

*Do you have any questions you’d like to ask the coaches or the members?
YES!  Are there any vegetarian members or coaches out there?  If so, how do you know if you’re getting enough protein for these workouts??

*Based on your experience at Craic, what advice do you have for new members or people who are looking to join the gym?
Keep showing up! You are not going to get any better by skipping class. I also find other people’s notes on SugarWOD to be very helpful. Lastly, find a buddy. Meeting up at class or deciding to do a workout together is much more fun (Shout out to Laura!)

*This month’s question is:  Would you rather: travel back in time 10 years knowing what you know now, OR, live a day 10 years from now and then travel back to the present time knowing that future information??  Why?
I would travel back in time and buy a lot of Bitcoin! But seriously, I would go back in time and stop using plastic bottles and cutlery, plastic bags, use cleaners with less chemicals, etc. Save the planet!

*What do the coaches say about Jackie?
Jackie is one of the most consistent members at Craic. She shows up regularly, puts in extra work towards her goals, and shows that gradual progress we love to see! Jackie loves adding in strength work before and after her workouts to gain that upper body strength! And, she collaborates with friends (shout out to Laura) on those gains, too! We imagine that you’re an amazing role model for your kids and we know you are for others at the gym! Keep it up, Jackie!

Ryan

*Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I grew up in Walpole and I moved back home after spending 4 years of college in Baltimore. My family is what you would call a towny family. I love New England and want to grow old here.

*When do you workout?  And what’s your favorite part of being a member of CRAIC?
Odds are if you are the Craic outside the hours of 7am-5pm, you will see me, morning or afternoon. My favorite part about Craic is the people and the atmosphere. Every single person wants you to reach your individual goals and whether they know it or not they have had an impact on me! That growth mentality is what keeps me coming back for more!

*Anything interesting you’d like to share about yourself (job/hobbies/fun facts/family, etc.)?
So, I work as a materials engineer literally down the road and ship really cool stuff all around the world. I’m also a huge nerd in every sense of the word. Video games, super heroes, or comic books, you name it. I love to geek out over the simplest things. I’m that guy that loves to take things apart just to look at whats inside. I’m also a member of a competitive crew team on the Charles River, called Riverside Boat Club (Go Stripes!!), trying to live out my D1 rowing days as a wash-up.

*Your proudest accomplishment(s) in training so far are…
So far I’d have to say my current stretch of being injury free. In the past I’ve been known to be reckless which resulted in slip discs, nerve damage, and concussions. Im currently going on 2 years (knock on wood) without any major injury and I’m really proud of that. Changing my approach to fitness as a whole has made the world’s difference.

*Some current training goals are…
I actually don’t like to set goals. It’s something that never worked for me. I try to take life one week at a time and work with that. I like not knowing what’s next and it excites me. For me, setting goals gets to stressful and I worry too much about achieving them. I try to focus on the little things and watch those make the big things happen.

*What’s the best advice you have in six words?  You may submit multiple answers.
Why not?

Life’s too short to be taken seriously.

Do the small things exceptionally well.

Pain is temporary.

*Do you have any questions you’d like to ask the coaches or the members?
Can write on the wall all of Marc’s Tuckerisms?

*Based on your experience at Craic, what advice do you have for new members or people who are looking to join the gym?
Tomorrow starts today! Just take everything one day at a time and the progress will come by itself. Everyone starts somewhere and it’s never too late!

*This month’s question is:  Would you rather: travel back in time 10 years knowing what you know now, OR, live a day 10 years from now and then travel back to the present time knowing that future information??  Why?
I would for sure travel back in time 10 years knowing what I know now. All the life lessons I’ve learned in the last few years have been invaluable to me. I wish I actually knew the things my parents told me about were true instead of me being a classic teenager and not really listening. I would do a lot of things differently but if I knew that, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

*What do the coaches say about Ryan?
We see Ryan ALL THE TIME! And we love it! To say this guy works hard would be an understatement. We love having him at the gym! He is always in a good mood, and somehow knows the word to EVERY song. We appreciate him sharing his vocal skills too 😉 Ryan willingly shares his rowing knowledge with other members and coaches, and takes cues extremely well himself. We’ve loved watching him improve and find his way as a competitive athlete! He is an overall fun guy to have around! Stick with it, Ryan!
